Why sleep matters
Sleep plays a vital role in physical recovery, emotional wellbeing, and overall quality of life – especially for people affected by cancer.
Poor sleep is very common, affecting up to 60% of people with cancer. It can be caused by treatment, side effects, emotional stress, or changes in routine. But the good news is that it can be improved.

About this website
Can-Sleep was developed by sleep and cancer experts at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre with support from the Victorian Cancer Survivorship Program. The resource brings together decades of clinical expertise, research, and lived experience.
All strategies are grounded in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBTi)—the gold-standard treatment for persistent sleep difficulties—and have been adapted to meet the specific needs of people affected by cancer.
